Respected Members of the Indian Orthopaedic Association,
Today, on India's 77th Independence Day, I write to you as your colleague, brother, son, student, and humble servant of the IOA.
I wish, we embark on a new era for our beloved association based on the pillars of Progress, Prowess, and Proficiency.
When each IOA President assumes office, the first few months are dedicated to developing a deep understanding of where the IOA stands on the world academic stage, planning a scientific and social agenda and selecting a team that will help fulfill our shared vision and mission.
I am glad that our team, the Executive Council and you as my brethren have strengthened my resolve and stratified my plan for the making the IOA an academic institution to recon with.
Progress
Each subcommittee of the IOA is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the scientific progress of our association is escalated to the standard of Global Academic Excellence. I thank my fellow colleagues including the chairs of various committees and their teams for their unwavering support and assistance.
Prowess
Every scientific society on the face of this earth can only excel on the strength of its scholarly foundation. Today the Indian Journal of Orthopaedics (IJO), the official scientific publication of the IOA has grown from strength to strength, due to the Herculean effort of the editorial team and phenomenal level of academic content that is published.
I express my deepest gratitude to all those who have contributed and are contributing towards our journal.
Proficiency
I have a dream. I wish that every member of the IOA and every postgraduate in this country should perform orthopaedic procedures with the same level of proficiency as our colleagues worldwide. The various teaching and training programs of the IOA are slowly but surely ensuring that our members are gaining merit and efficiency in their clinical practice.
Finally, I am keenly and humbly looking forward to meeting you all with folded hands and pride in my soul when we conduct IOACON 2023 in Lucknow. The preparations for the same are well on course and it is my promise to all of you that this conference will set new academic benchmarks for the future.
I, Dr Atul Srivastava am as human and as vulnerable as you are, but it is the strength of your belief in me and your unflinching support in my abilities that makes my toil for the IOA worthwhile each day.
Signing off with “UBUNTU” – an ancient African word meaning ‘I AM BECAUSE WE ARE’ or ‘humanity to others.’
Humbly Yours,
Dr Atul Srivastava
Hon. President
Indian Orthopaedic Association
